Dog owners have better lives than cat lovers. This is according to a new study conducted by VetPlus, a provider of veterinary nutraceuticals, which claims that dog owners have an edge with cat lovers when it comes to the professional, social and sexual aspects of their lives.
The Daily Mirror reported that the researchers drew their conclusions by surveying 1,500 adults who own cats or dogs as pets, and examining their jobs, wages and sociability. They found that a typical dog owner is earning £27,000 annually, which is slightly higher compared to an average cat owner who takes home £24,000. They also discovered that 11 percent of the dog owners consider themselves as "extremely successful" compared to only eight percent of the cat lovers.
When it comes to sex life, the results of the survey showed that dog lovers fare better with three sexual encounters every week, compared to cat owners who only get to do it twice a week. Moreover, dog owners are more likely to get married than feline lovers, which is 60 percent compared to 55 percent.
In terms of sociability, the researchers found that dog lovers have better social lives. Dog owners have an average of 60 online friends while cat lovers only have 50. They also discovered that canine lovers have more close friends than feline owners, with 15 compared to 12.
"The goal of the research was to understand the differences between dog and cat owners and what drives them to visit a vet," a representative of VetPlus explained. "Looking at this research, this may well be because of the difference in lifestyle and relationships between the pet and the owner."
While dog lovers have better lives, a study conducted in 2014 claimed that cat owners have an edge when it comes to intelligence. A report of the Daily Mail said that the results of the study by Carroll University in Wisconsin showed that feline lovers scored more highly on an intelligence test than canine owners.
