One-night stands are not as worth it for women as they are for men, a recent study finds.
This is because 60 percent of women do not reach orgasm during casual sex while 80 percent of men do, according to a previous study by New York University. A recent study found that casual sex is therefore more satisfying for men than women and women are twice more likely to reach orgasm only if they are in a committed relationship. Dr. Kim Wallen, a female desire expert from Emory University told the New York Times: "The notion of sexual liberation, where men and women both had equal access to casual sex, assumed a comparable likelihood of that sex being pleasurable. But that part of the playing field isn't level."
Researchers from Indiana University and Binghamton University interviewed 600 college students about their sex lives. They found that female students were more likely to orgasm when in a serious relationship than when having casual sex. The team of researchers led by Dr. Justin Garcia said: "We've been sold this bill of goods that we're in an era where people can be sexually free and participate equally in the hook-up culture. The fact is that not everyone's having a good time."
Dr. Paula England from New York University said: "We attribute that to practice with a partner, which yields better success at orgasm, and we also think the guys care more in a relationship." Dr. England found many men admit to being less interested in satisfying women they are having casual sex with than those they are in an actual relationship with. She believes women cannot achieve orgasm during casual sex because they have difficulty expressing what they really want from their 'partner'.
