Fearing that the serum contained pork gelatine, a Muslim mother won't let her kids get vaccinated. A family court judge has intervened and has ruled that the children should be immunized despite their mother's paranoia.
London judge Carol Atkinson, who withheld the mother's real name, said the woman is overly suspicious of everything and has a deranged view of the world. In a court ruling shared to The Guardian, Atkinson revealed that this wasn't the first time the mother disallowed her four children from getting booster shots.
"These children have a variety of outstanding immunizations," she stated. "The mother has refused her consent on a number of different bases; that the vaccines contain pork gelatine is the most recent objection."
To appease the concerned mother, a test was done to find out the chemical contents of the said vaccine. The mother later consented after results showed the serum did not contain any foreign contaminants.
Atkinson said the children, two boys and two girls, had suffered gravely under their mother's care. She added that the woman was emotionally unstable and displayed aggressive behavior. The children were only forced to live with her after she and her husband separated a few years back.
The court ruled that the father, who also lives in London, should have custody of the four minors. The father would be backed by social workers as he takes care of his children while the mother has been afforded with visiting rights.
"I bear in mind that I should make no order unless an order is necessary," said Atkinson. "I note the mother's willingness to consent but I have seen her agree to a whole host of things in these proceedings only to change her position later. Accordingly, I intend to make an order."
For the time being, the children are receiving care at the London Borough of Newham. They would be directed to live with their father after the final provisions of the custody have been ironed out, as per BBC.
