Joey Feek already bid goodbye to her vocal duo and husband Rory Feek as she succumbed to cervical cancer on March 4 at 40 years old. Fans of the Rory and Joey duo gathered at the Alexandria-Monroe High School gymnasium on Sunday to give their last respect for the late singer.
According to ABC News, the public memorial came after Rory Feek together with their families and close friends have the intimate ceremony at their farm in Pottsville, Tennessee to give their final send-off to Joey Feek. Rory Feek graced the open ceremony with their 2-year-old daughter at Joey Feek's hometown in Alexandria, Indiana to honor the mother of his child.
The memorial service was filled with good music and special memories, which Rory Feek wrote on his blog, "This Life I Live." The eulogy was made by, of course, Rory Feek, her sisters, teachers and ex-basketball coach.
Daily Mail added that Rory Feek started the ceremony by saying that the gymnasium where his wife's coffin was lying may be the same place where she played basketball and volleyball. "And I may be wearing her jacket, but what she lettered in was love," Rory Feek emotionally said.
Rory Feek, too, recalled how he believed in love again when he felt the passion Joey Feek had for him. "Joey and I believed that God would give us a great story, not just a great story to tell, but a great story to live, and he has," Rory Feek added.
Evidently, Rory Feek and Joey Feek went through "incredible triumphs and life-threatening valleys." The service also featured Joey Feek's most-wanted songs, like "Lean on Me."
Joey Feek's procession was led by eight singers while Alison Krauss' "Down by the River to Pray" was playing in the background. The performers were followed by Joey Feek's casket hauled by "a mule-drawn carriage."
