Sesame Seeds Are More Effective Than Tylenol For Osteoarthritis

Sesame seeds can manage pain better than Tylenol in patients with osteoarthritis, according to a study. Sufferers may also benefit from the long list of health advantages sesame seeds may provide.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that one in two people will have knee osteoarthritis by old age. Fortunately, sesame seeds can offer a natural solution to managing the pain.

According to a study conducted by Azerbaijan's Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, consuming sesame seeds can significantly improve signs and symptoms of patients with knee osteoarthritis. A study that was conducted for 60 days showed that consuming 4 tablespoons of sesame seeds proved to be more effective than taking 1000 mg of Tylenol for knee pain.

The study observed 50 participants and divided them into two groups with one group being given 1000 mg of Tylenol a day and the other 40 grams of powdered sesame seeds a day. Patients in the sesame group confirmed improvement in their symptoms with a drop in pain and three times the relief compared to the Tylenol group.

Osteoarthritis is traditionally treated with NSAID medications such as acetaminophen medications such as Tylenol and ibuprofen. Unfortunately, these drugs are known to cause serious side effects such as liver problems.

Sesame seeds are high in minerals such as calcium, magnesium, copper, manganese, iron, phosphorous, zinc, vitamin B1 and dietary fiber. Copper, in particular, plays an important role in helping with knee pain since the mineral contains an enzyme needed for the cross-linking of collagen and elastin.

Collagen and elastic are substances that offer strength, structure and elasticity to the blood vessels, bones and joints. This can also explain why sesame seeds offer relief and possibly a cure for osteoarthritis, Natural News reported

Sesame seeds also lower cholesterol levels, control diabetes, lower high blood pressure and stops the growth of breast cancer, according to Seattle Organic Restaurants. Sesame seeds also do not offer any adverse side effects such as the side effects associated with Tylenol including kidney and liver damage, heart attacks, asthma, internal bleeding or even death.

Boiling one teaspoon of sesame in a cup of water for 15 to 20 minutes can make for great sesame tea for pain relief. In other cases, dry roasted sesame seeds can make for a great additional to any dish.
