Chevrolet updates 2015’s Camaro ZL1 and turns it into a more powerful, lighter and more techie muscle car that every car enthusiast would want to ride in. Apparently, it’s a monster of a car.
The new 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 boasts of a supercharged 640-horsepower, 640 lb.-ft. 6.2-liter small block V8 engine that’s more powerful than it’s older brother, reports Maxim. It weighs 90kg lighter than the earlier version, but boasts 60 more horsepower and an additional 80 lb.-ft. of torque.
Although Chevrolet hasn’t released official performance stats just yet, it is expected that the new Camaro ZL1 will overthrow the 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds and quarter-mile run in 11.94 seconds record of the older brother, reports CarThrottle.
Chevy’s new ZL1 also takes advantage of two transmission models: a six-speed manual transmission that enthusiasts would want to have, or a 10-speed automatic transmission that replaces the six-speed AT in the 2015 Camaro. This new setting greatly benefits fuel efficiency as slow driving won’t require the car to consume more fuel, reports Mashable.
The ZL1 borrows most of the hardware found in the Corvette Z06, including Magnetic Suspension, huge six-piston Brembo monoblock callipers, an electronic limited slip differential that helps in grip, and a launch control system.
It also has 20-inch forged wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires, and bodywork that amazes: wider front fenders, aerodynamic front splitter, unique side skirts and a new rear spoiler.
The ZL1’s bonnet, or hood, is noteworthy, too. The bonnet has a special carbonfiber insert and heat extractor vents in the middle that helps in cooling that powerful engine inside it.
The package doesn’t end there. The new Camaro ZL1 also boasts of Chevrolet’s Performance Data Computer, Recaro bucket seats, suede-covered steering wheel and shift knob, onboard 4G LTE Wi-Fi and Apple CarPlay. It’s a muscle-car that knows how to pamper its driver well.
The 2017 Camaro ZL1 releases later this year, at a still-undiclosed price.
