Mother’s Smartphone Explodes While She Sleeps Next To Her Son

A terrified mother from Hull, Yorkshire shared how her family was put at risk when her charging mobile phone exploded next to a bed she shared with her son. The phone allegedly made a massive bang before bursting into flames.

Lucy Pinder told The Sun that she was sleeping in a bed she shared with her three-year-old son Joseph when her Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone exploded and burst into flames. She said she left her smartphone charging on the floor next to their bed before going to sleep.

"I woke up to a massive bang and the room was filled with thick smoke," the 28-year-old waitress narrated. "Joseph was screaming and the smell of burning was unreal."

Lucy added that her electrician husband Michael, who was sleeping downstairs, rushed to their room after hearing the commotion. Michael immediately put out the smouldering phone that had already burnt their room's carpet and bed.

The next day, Lucy said she brought the smartphone back to the shop that sold it, and the shop sent the smartphone to Samsung's factory in Korea to trace the cause of the explosion. The factory, however, responded that the smartphone did not have anything that had caused the explosion.

Lucy disclosed that the smartphone was only two-month old and she never experienced any problem before the terrifying incident. She warned people not to leave their phones charging overnight as it can be very dangerous.

"We were so shaken up. If the phone had been charging under my pillow instead of on the floor, we would have been seriously burned," Lucy shared. "Now I'm terrified of leaving my phone on charge overnight."

Commenting on the claims, Samsung told the Daily Mail that they did not find any fault with Lucy's phone. A representative of the company emphasized that there are no known safety issues with Galaxy S6 devices.

"Customer damage is a potential cause of this incident but as the results of our internal investigation were inconclusive, Samsung has offered the customer a replacement and compensation as a gesture of our goodwill," the representative stated.
