If you’re a fan of 2-in-1 convertibles, as well as both Microsoft’s Surface Pro and Apple’s iPad Pro, Korean tech giant Samsung has something to offer you.
Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy TabPro S, a 2-in-1 that might make people think it’s a spinoff of the Surface Pro, but is actually inspired by the iPad Pro, reports Mashable.
This new nifty gadget is a beautiful slim powerhouse, able to go neck-to-neck with a Surface Pro 4 near its configurations, for a lower price thanks to the keyboard/cover included in the $899.99 selling price, reports Computer World. The lower price will ensure that it will appeal to everyone looking for a cheaper alternative to the more expensive powerhouses.
The Galaxy TabPro S is roughly the same size as the Surface Pro 4 and smaller than the iPad Pro. The tablet body weighs about a pound and a half, and a little bit more with the keyboard attached. The keyboard also acts as a screen cover much like the iPad Pro’s.
Samsung has fitted the TabPro S with the first 12-inch Super AMOLED display on a Windows 10 tablet. The screen delivers beautifully crisp and colorful visuals with a 2160 x 1440 resolution, although both the Surface and iPad Pro offer higher resolutions.
It is powered by Intel’s Core M3 processor, which gives it enough power for everyday business and leisure use. Samsung also promises it will give 10.5 hours of battery life from 2.5 hours of charging.
One problem, though, is the apparent need for more adjustment settings. The TabPro S keyboard cover only allows two: a 20-degree setting that is useful for drawing; and a 60-degree setting that lets the tablet body stand. If it could let the tablet recline like the Surface Pro’s kickstand does, it would probably be better.
Still, the Galaxy TabPro S offers full Windows 10 functionality (except for Windows Hello), huge 128 GB internal memory (not expandable via microSD card, though), a USB-C port (although its just one), Samsung’s “Flow” app for added security and convenience, all at a cheaper price of $899.99 compared to both the Surface Pro and iPad Pro. It also has a bluetooth pen and leather-like cover, too.
“Samsung has deftly blended strong elements from both the Surface Pro 4 and the iPad Pro for a solid hybrid machine that should please both business users and students,” noted Mashable.
