Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant To Star In Netflix Comedy 'Santa Clarita Diet' -- Everything We Know So Far

Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant are set to star in “Santa Clarita Diet,” a new Netflix original comedy series, shot in single-camera. Here are some details about the upcoming show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will launch sometime in 2017. The plot focuses on a married couple who work as realtors and living in Santa Clarita, a suburb in Los Angeles, California. Timothy Olyphant will play Joe while Drew Barrymore will take on the role of his wife, Sheila. The two are generally discontented with the way they live, but Shiela will have a huge transformation that will bring both of them to a path of death and destruction, in a good way.

"The genius casting of Timothy and Drew, combined with Victor’s unique comedic sensibility, will delight, and definitely surprise, our members around the world," Netflix executive Cindy Holland stated. “Santa Clarita Diet” will feature Timothy Olyphant’s return to series-regular television after he was nominated for an Emmy award in his starring role in the FX drama “Justified.”

The show ended in 2015 after six seasons. Timothy Olyphant also previously worked on “Deadwood” on HBO, which garnered him a SAG nomination. The actor is an expert in comedy and has appeared in numerous shows like “The Grinder,” “The Office,” “The League" and “Sex and the City,” among others. He will appear in film next in “Mother’s Day” and “Snowden.”

Drew Barrymore is also an expert in comedy and has appeared in numerous movies like “Charlie’s Angels,” “50 First Dates” and “Fever Pitch." She also won a Golden Globe and SAG Award for her role in “Grey Gardens.” Timothy Olyphant is represented by Brillstein Entertainment Partners while Drew Barrymore is repped by CAA and Hansen Jacobson.

IGN wrote that the series was created by Victor Fresco, writer of “Better Off Ted.” Fresco will also serve as executive producer, together with Olyphant and Barrymore. Other executive producers include Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, Chris Miller, Ember Truesdell and Tracy Katsky. Nancy Juvonen, Barrymore’s Flower Films partner, will serve as producer.

It is still uncertain how many episodes the first season will consist of. More updates and details are expected to be announced soon.
