"Bones" Season 11 will premiere its midseason offering in a few weeks and following the events of the first half of the season, Hodgins will have to deal with an emotional setback. The entomologist's struggles as he stays paralyzed will affect his relationship with Angela.
As viewers may recall, Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) suffered from a spinal injury during the bomb blast that took place right before "Bones" Season 11 went on a hiatus. In the show's return April 14, Hodgins is back at work with a cheery attitude, but that will all change when he deals with Cam (Tamara Taylor). The episode will also trigger another emotional setback in a form of a call, as per TV Line.
In succeeding episodes, Hodgins growing bitterness for his plight will eventually seep through his relationship with his wife, Angela (Michael Conlin), as he starts pushing everyone away. "There are different stages of adapting to a tragedy like this, and right now we're in the stage of Hodgins giving up a little bit," said Conlin of her character's marriage, via another TV Line report. But even as Conlin stated Angela will be "fighting for her man," her character will apparently turn to photographer Sebastian Kohl (Gil Darnell), her photography mentor, for comfort and support.
Remember when Cam once suggested that Sebastian was interested in her and Angela brushed it off? "Bones" Season 11 producers dished Angela will see her mentor in a different light this time around. But what will this mean for her marriage?
"I don't think Angela would ordinarily ever choose to do that and I think because of their long history, the audience would not be comfortable with her talking to Sebastian about Jack for any reason whatsoever," said executive producer Michael Peterson via TV Guide. "But on the flip side, we've never seen Hodgins push Angela away like this. So, I think the fans will feel what she's feeling, which is, "What am I to do?"
This is a test for the couple's relationship, which should make their marriage stronger if they get through it. For this problem's resolution, producers hinted that Hodgins will have to come to terms with accepting his current condition and work through his temporary disability. When that happens, viewers will get to see the old and funny Hodgins again.
