As production for "Toy Story 4" is taking shape, producer John Lasseter earlier revealed that its plot will have nothing to do with the previous films' storylines. The upcoming film will be a love story between Woody and Bo, and Buzz Lightyear and Jessie. But have you ever wondered about the real situation with Andy's dad?
Andy is the human character in the first three "Toy Story" films. He's the central figure in all of the blockbuster movies' plots. His father was never featured in those movies and wasn't even mentioned by his Andy's mom or Andy himself. It's not likely that he will be coming up on "Toy Story 4."
The reason for this is quite simple, as revealed in an old interview with Lee Unkrich, the director. "We don't mean to be mysterious about it; it's just never been relevant to the story," he said, per Quora. "The decision was made really early on in 'Toy Story' to have Andy's dad not be around," Unkrich added and said that the production think an explanation for his absence would not be necessary.
But Andy's dad is somewhat connected to the movie in some way through Woody. "Maybe Woody is so special to Andy because he was given to him by his dad. I don't know if that is the case or not, but there is that kind of unspoken question, 'Why would Woody be especially special to him?'" Unkrich suggested.
Meanwhile, as Parent Herald previously reported, "Toy Story 4" will figure a love story angle. Apparently, the idea behind this was inspired by someone close to the "Toy Story" producer. "I've been very inspired by my wife Nancy's story in her life before I met her," said Lasseter, per Collider. "It's an incredible story, and it's been sort of a bit of an inspiration for this."
