Domino's Pizza is proud to introduce a new development in their pizza delivery service because this time, they are using robots to make this work. The giant pizza company revealed on March 17 at a Brisbane event that they are releasing a robot that drives and delivers pizza and drinks to their customers through the help of GPS.
In an article published by Hello Giggles, this innovation from Domino's Australia just started involving robots for delivering pizza right at the doorsteps of anyone who would order from them. The company is continuing to use technology as part of their system, as recently they encouraged their customers to use emojis for ordering with their smartphones.
According to CNN Money, this new delivery scheme by Domino's Pizza is made possible by GPS technology and although the concept is still in its beta testing phase, the robot has already delivered its first successful order to a couple who requested for a hot pie and a cold liter of soda.
The robot's name is DRU, which stands for Domino's Robotic Unit. The company created this system along with a military startup company called Marathon Targets, whose products are meant for live fire training. Marathon is glad to become a part of this history in the fast food industry since Domino's is the first pizza company to have incorporated robots in their delivery business.
Customers who will order using DRU would expect to see a four-wheeled black and white robot with the brand logo of the company on its head. Its body was made to drive around the city with a speed of 12 mph. DRU would be navigating through the foot or bike paths of the streets of Australia starting this month.
Are you excited for this change in pizza delivery? Will you entrust your order from a robot or would you still prefer the conventional pizza delivery guy?
