23-Month-Old Toddler Starved To Death Allegedly By Own Parents

A couple from Pennsylvania was charged with murder for the death of their 23-month-old toddler. Autopsy reports showed that she was starved to death.

Andrea Dusha, 26, and Michael Wright, 32, are now facing murder charges after their 23-month-old daughter died. She was brought to the hospital by her parents after they noticed foam began forming on her nose and mouth.

According to Yahoo, the couple told the doctors that Lydia was sick and that she was just drinking a liquid mixture of water, Pedialyte and Gatorade. The couple further stated that the eyes of the girl just "rolled into the back of her head" and it was then that she just quit breathing.

Upon reaching the hospital, doctors tried to revive the toddler but to no avail. It was found that the little girl was undernourished considering that her weight was only 10 pounds while the average 23-month-old toddlers weigh between 20 to 25 pounds. The medical examiner also found the toddler to be dehydrated.

An investigation into the couple's home showed that the toddler was living in deplorable conditions. The complaint stated that empty soda bottles were used as urinals and that garbage was not disposed of properly as they were placed inside plastic bags and strewn across the floor. Excrement covered a high chair and one bag was full of used tampons. Rooms were a mess and reports noted that there was no running water available and no sewage system either.

Inquisitr notes that Lydia was not the only child of the Wright couple. They have two other children, who were placed under child protective services since their home was not suitable for children to live in.

The couple has not yet entered a plea but since they initially alleged that their daughter was just sick, there is a high probability that they will enter a plea of not guilty. Is murder the proper charge for them? Would they have rather been charged with reckless endangerment of a child, and endangering the welfare of a child? Share your thoughts below.
