It's just ironic that it gets harder to conceive when you're looking forward to getting pregnant as compared to when you are doing your best to avoid it when you were younger. While your doctor may give tips to help you get pregnant, there are also helpful tips to get it done faster.
We have gathered tips from Parenting and Live Science to help you conceive faster. It is still important though to see a healthcare provider first to get all the medical requirements out of the way. The healthcare provider will review your medical history to see any possible complications that might arise during pregnancy.
The healthcare provider will also let you go through a series of medical examinations to make sure you're healthy and ready to get pregnant. Once this has been established, you may want to follow these tips to help you get pregnant faster:
1. Record menstrual cycle and monitor evaluation
This helps women determine if her cycle is regular or not and help her predict her ovulating days. According to Live Science, a woman's egg will only live 12 to 24 hours after being released. Meanwhile, a man's sperm can live for 48 to 72 hours inside a woman's body.
For regular menstrual cycles, ovulation normally occurs two weeks before menstruation. For irregular menstrual cycles, it may be harder to predict but Live Science says that it could range from 12 to 16 days before your next menstruation. There are also ovulation predictor kits available to check ovulation. The American Pregnancy Association recommends having sex three days after getting a positive result on the kit.
Another method to keep track of your ovulation is by charting your basal body temperature (BBT). Keep a record of your BBT for at least three cycles. You are most fertile three days before your BBT will slightly increase. There's also a fertility monitor that measures LH surge and estrogen levels too. These kits can predict your fertile window for 21 to 42 days cycle.
2. Have intercourse every other day during the fertile window
Each month, a woman has about six days that she is likely to be fertile. According to Live Science, one study suggests that pregnancy is most successful if intercourse is done two days before ovulation. To be safe, start to have sex five days before you start to ovulate.
3. Maintain a healthy body weight
Research has shown that a woman with a BMI greater than 35 can take twice as long to get pregnant compared to a woman with normal BMI. While women with BMI less than 19 can take four times as long to get pregnant. Excess body fat produces estrogen which affects ovulation.
4. Take prenatal vitamins
It is recommended to take on prenatal vitamins while you attempt to get pregnant. Choose multivitamins with at least 400 micrograms of folic acid and B vitamins. This can also prevent birth defects.
