In the recently concluded Apple Spring event, the Cupertino-based tech giant introduced their new products - iPhone SE and iPad Pro 9.7. Were the customers impressed with the newest addition to the iPad lineup?
iPad Pro 9.7 is a downgrade version of its predecessors. Apple downsized the dimension and specs of the expensive iPad to make it more affordable and acceptable to the masses, PhoneArena reported.
Despite the downsize, iPad Pro 9.7 features a svelte 0.24-inch thin aluminum body and only weigh 0.96 pounds, which is very impressive given that it comes with four speakers. It also comes with a three-pin connector to connect the gadget to its optional Smart Keyboard dock.
As for the iPad Pro 9.7's display, it comes with 25 percent better color saturation than the previous iPad models but it has the same resolution with iPad Air 2. iPad Pro 9.7 is equipped with A9X SoC which is 1.8 times faster than A8X. However, it only comes with 2GB of RAM, which upsets the customers.
One customer commented, "For a grand, the Surface Pro 4 Core i5 is way superior to bigger 12.9" iPad Pro. Not to mention this downgraded 9.7 iPad Pro." Another one wrote, "Oh a top notch performance with 2GB ram!! Is it 2014!! SST- small student toys !!"
Meanwhile, here's a Greekbench run for iPad Pro 9.7 and a screenshot comparison with iPad Pro 12.9.
On a separate note, Engadget thinks that the iPad lineup is getting more complicated. iPad Pro 9.7 is the successor of iPad Air 2. The two have the same size and weight. The old iPad Air 2 remains powerful and cheaper than iPad Pro 9.7.
Customers can buy the $600 iPad Pro 9.7 with 32GB storage or save $100 and buy iPad Air 2 with twice the iPad Pro 9.7's capacity. The report stresses that at the time, even Apple might find it difficult to answer the best iPad that customers should buy in the market.
"It feels like Apple is throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks in the iPad lineup," the report notes.
