"Halo Wars 2," as XBox head Phil Spencer confirmed, is all set for a 2016 debut. "Halo Wars 2" is an RTS (Real Time Strategy) game made by Creative Assembly, who developed the Total War games.
"Halo Wars 1," on the other hand, was developed by Ensemble Studios. "Halo Wars 1" was, in fact, well-received for bringing the RTS genre to consoles and to a franchise established for its FPS (first person shooter) action. Prior to "Halo Wars 1," the RTS genre made its home with the PC platform.
IGN reports that Phil Spencer confirmed that "Halo Wars 2" is right on schedule. Currently, however, word is pending on whether or not "Halo Wars 2" will be a prequel, much like "Halo Wars 1." Otherwise, "Halo Wars" 2 may continue with the current Forerunner saga. 343 Industries took over from Bungie after "Halo: Reach," starting the Forerunner saga, which "Halo Wars" 2 may now expand.
The "Halo Wars" 2 trailer suggests the involvement of more than a few Spartans. Covenant will most likely be (one of) the enemies in "Halo Wars 2," considering that a Brute is the main antagonist in the trailer. According to IGN, Phil Spencer is happy with the advent of "Halo Wars."
"I love that we have Halo Wars 2 coming this year, I really think strategy is an underserved category on consoles," Phil Spencer said. "I love the first Halo Wars, I love the team we're working with this time, Creative Assembly is great."
Express reports that "Halo Wars" has been promised as a backwards compatible title leading up to the release of "Halo Wars 2" later this year. This is more evidence that Microsoft is keeping their prized franchise alive with almost 20 "Halo" novels already released up until now and more promised.
According to Game Spot, Ridley Scott's executive produced prequel miniseries to "Halo 5: Guardians" has a planned follow-up of a Steven Spielberg-produced series currently in production with Showtime. The "Halo" series pilot is set to be directed by "District 9" director Neill Blomkamp. In the meantime, "Halo Wars 2" is expected to be available this fall.
