Philip Chism Denies Raping, Killing High School Teacher Colleen Ritzer

Philip Chism, 14, denies charges that he raped and killed Colleen Ritzer, a math high school teacher back in October, according to reports.

Chism is being tried as an adult for first-degree murder in the slaying of Ritzer, 24, a teacher at Danvers High School. He has also been charged with aggravated rape and armed robbery as a youthful offender. Chism was ordered to be held without bail, according to the Associated Press.

Ritzer's body was found in woods near the school with her throat slit and a note reading, "I hate you all." Her body was discovered a few hours after both Chism and Ritzer had been reported missing by their loved ones.

According to police officers, they first found blood in the school's bathroom before they searched the woods nearby the school. Other police officers found Philip Chism walking alone along a busy road. He was found with a pair of women's underwear, a bloody knife, credit cards and two drivers licenses.

Chism had recently moved to Massachusetts from Clarksville, Tenn. According to the report, fellow students told police they had seen Chism after school the day the 24-year-old Ritzer was killed. One student says Chism appeared to become angry when Ritzer began talking about Tennessee.

Meanwhile, surveillance video's showed Chism following Ritzer into a school bathroom, wearing gloves and a hood, then later walking out of the bathroom alone.

A pretrial hearing was scheduled for Jan. 30 in Salem, Mass.
