Couples who are trying to get pregnant should consider consuming more vegetables, specifically Brussels sprouts, to help boost fertility, a recent study confirms.
The research suggests that nine percent of all conceptions take place over the holiday season, making December the most fertile month of the entire year because of all the parties and festivities that take place. However, nutritional therapist Neema Savvides from the Harley Street Fertility Clinic says the increased consumption of sprouts may also play a huge role. "Believe it or not, this green micro cabbage is a baby making super food. Firstly, they are bursting with folic acid which is essential for boosting fertility in both men and women. This vitamin rich source also increases sperm levels and helps line the womb with the right nutrients raising sperm survival chances."
Another benefit of consuming Brussels sprouts is "it also helps to decrease the risk of miscarriages and birth defects." This vegetable contains a phytonutrient called di-indolylmethane, which helps women absorb balanced levels of hormone estrogen. It also helps the body get rid of excess hormones, thus, boosting fertility. Other than this, Brussels sprouts are also well-known for helping to lower cholesterol levels and is packed with anti-inflammatory properties.
Other than this, Brussels sprouts may also have positive benefits when consumed on a regular basis. For instance, it is rich in fiber which may help lower cholesterol levels and improve digestion and bowel movement. Likely, the vegetable may also aid in cancer protection because of the four specific glucosinolates found in it: glucoraphanin, glucobarassicin, sinigrin and gluconasturiian, according to the World's Healthiest Foods.
