Easter is near and what better way to celebrate than with traditional fanfare and Easter egg hunting? If you're over the method of dye-dunking your Easter eggs and want something creative and one you can do with children, there's nothing to worry about.
Do away with tradition and decorate your Easter eggs with an updated look. Here are creative ways to dye Easter eggs:
1. Chalkboard paint Easter eggs
Can't seem to make up your mind on how to decorate your Easter eggs? Turn them into chalkboards instead, so that in case you make any mistakes, you can just wipe off your chalk designs and start over again.
This idea comes from Oleander and Palm and all you need to do is cover your eggs with chalkboard paint. Since it can potentially be reusable, you can also use it on craft store eggs as well.
2. Watercolor pencil Easter eggs
Using watercolor pencils on Easter eggs makes traditional dyeing seem like a chore. According to Alisa Burke, all you need are watercolor pencils, some eggs and you're ready to jump in. It's so easy that even kids will enjoy it.
3. Food coloring, white crayon & salt Easter eggs
Utilize your creativity in a simple and frugal way by using food coloring, a white crayon and some salt to dye your Easter eggs. Scrumdilly-doo suggests experimenting by using different amounts of food coloring and salt. You can also use watercolor to add more finishing touches.
4. Naturally colored Easter eggs
Instead of paying for synthetic Easter egg dyes, why not use natural dyes derived from various food items? The Vegetable Gardener used coffee, spices, tea, onion skins, beet root, red cabbage, carrots, spinach, beet tops and more to color their Easter eggs.
You can also experiment with other fruits and vegetables too. However, it is best to use white eggs if you plan to dye your Easter eggs this way because brown eggs don't absorb as much color.
