Another entry-level smartphone is rumored to come to western shores. Samsung in January announced the 2016 Galaxy J1, and rumor has it that it is coming to AT&T soon.
A tweet saying the phone will soon be offered by AT&T has surfaced, reports Phone Arena. The tweet comes from known leak poster Evan Blass (@evleaks), who tweeted a photo of the entry-level Samsung phone with a note that it will soon come to the carrier. Details regarding pricing and dates aren't given, but based on the rendered phone design, it could be possible that AT&T will offer the phone starting April 1.
Being an entry-level smartphone, the 2016 Samsung Galaxy J1 doesn't have specs that will outpace other mid-range or high end smartphones. It is powered by a quad-core Exynos 3475 processor that clocked at 1.3GHz, backed by a meager 1GB or RAM. It only has 8 gigs of internal memory, but it can be expanded thanks to microSD card support.
The Galaxy J1 features a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED 480 x 800 display, a 5-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, a plastic body and is supplied power by a 2050 mAh battery. It runs on Android Lollipop, and comes in three color options (black, white and gold) although it is still unknown if all three will be offered by AT&T.
Earlier reports say that AT&T will also be offering the 2016 Galaxy J3. Compared to the Galaxy J1, the J3 has better features, such as a 5-inch 720p display and a slightly bigger 1.5GB of RAM. The Galaxy J3 is reportedly currently available now at Boost and Virgin mobile.
If the new Galaxy J1 will follow its predecessor's pricing, it could very well be sold for about $120 when it comes to the U.S., reports Ubergizmo. The Galaxy J3 is believed to be more expensive than that.
