As "Star Trek Beyond" is expected in theaters in July 2016, the franchise unveiled its plans for the reboot of the TV series on CBS in the following year. Featuring new characters and new worlds, the upcoming still-untitled show has Bryan Fuller as creator and there have been reports that production is already rolling ahead.
Empire reports that the network apparently released a teaser poster for the "Star Trek" TV reboot for 2017, which featured the familiar "Star Trek" logo. Meanwhile, cameramen are supposedly already in a California studio to do early production for the show. "They were testing out the different looks. It was a promo for the beginning of the tv show," a source told Trek Brasilis.
However, Trek Movie reports that the studio shots are fake and it does not relate to the new "Star Trek" TV show production. Avid fans - otherwise known as Trekkers - speculate it might have been old photos from previous "Star Trek" incarnations, but they cannot determine if this was for the movies or the old TV shows.
There are still few details about the "Star Trek" TV show reboot, but CBS announced that when it does launch in 2017, the episodes will be exclusively aired online via CBS All Access. It's the network's plan to stabilize its streaming site. "Having 'Star Trek' as our first original is a declaration of how serious we are about building this service," CBS president Les Moonves said, per Variety.
Apart from Fuller as show creator, Alex Kurtzman is also on board as executive producer. He's not a stranger to the "Star Trek" project as he co-wrote the 2009 "Star Trek" film with Chris Pine and its sequel "Star Trek Into Darkness." Fuller is also quite familiar with the sci-fi series. He had his beginnings as a writer in early "Star Trek" TV shows.
