For some parents, radical parenting is a big tool to help keep kids safe at home, in school and other possible environments they will be exposed to. They believe that to be able to protect their children, they need to be recognized that there are risks and dangers around them.
According to Parenting.com, it is important to train young individuals on how to handle sharp objects like knives, saws and hammers. It explained that when they experience getting pierced or hurt by these tools, they will finally understand what "sharp" really means.
"When you put kids in charge of their own safety, they become more aware of their bodies and gain valuable skills and confidence," the same report noted. It added that parents just need to have confidence that their kids can do it.
It was also noted that parents should train their kids to listen to stories with sad endings. Parenting.com said the young ones should learn how to cope with feelings of anger, sadness and fear.
On the other hand, writer Matt Walsh highlighted in his blog that kids, even at a young age, should be exposed to work and responsibility. "Maybe we should get them acquainted with duty and discipline," he said adding that this will help in the growth of children.
Another advice offered by Parenting.com is to allow children to talk to strangers. Unlike the usual practice of stopping kids from conversing with people they do not know, the same report said that this will help kids become "street smart" and not grow as coward individuals.
"Strangers are most likely to be your child's helpers, so it's time to teach better safety messages, including "if you're lost, find a mom or dad," Parenting.com advised. It explained that kids may also be confused what the word "stranger" really means since they can give various meanings to the word.
