A 19-year old girl suffers from a condition that results in her crying and sweating actual blood, the Daily Mail reports.
Delfina Cedeno first experienced the disorder four years ago when she found blood seeping from her fingernails and belly button. When her condition deteriorated, she started crying blood and even experienced frequent nose bleeding episodes. As a result, she has been experiencing hair loss. During one instance, Delfina was left in a critical condition that required her to undergo blood transfusion after she didn't stop bleeding for 15 days.
"When this started happening to me I didn't know what to think - I was terrified and in complete shock. At first no one could help me and they looked at me like a crazy person when I told them what was going on. It was only when I started bleeding in front of a doctor one day that they began to take me seriously." At one point, Delfina felt ashamed of her condition that she did not want to leave the house. She dropped out of school and most of her friends abandoned her due to embarrassment and fear.
"People were terrified of me. They thought that if they touched me I would stain them with blood. Kids laughed and shouted at me. For a long time I just stayed in my bedroom." Due to depression brought about her rare condition, Delfina once attempted to commit suicide by overdosing on sedatives. "I wanted to die. My family found me in a heap in my bedroom with my mouth foaming. I ended up in intensive care for a week and when I woke up the doctors told me I had technically died. I had gone into cardiac arrest and they had to give me electric shocks."
