The Maury County school board will be in partnership with two potential education programs that would make the students learn more about science and technology. The programs would prepare them for better careers in the future. The proposed programs were introduced and presented by Lorri Brown, the supervisor of Career and Technical Education.
Project Lead The Way
According to Columbia Daily Herald, Project Lead the Way is the first proposed program. It involves learning in science and technology that includes PLTW engineering. The students will be engaged in problem-solving and learn engineering process.
They would also be taught in design with subjects such as mechatronics, aerodynamics, sustainability, manufacturing, forces, digital electronics, environment and circuit design. These learning disciplines will be applied to Maury County's middle school and high school students.
"Our proposal is to implement Project Lead the Way in all of our middle schools next year and to implement Project Lead the Way Engineering in all of our high school next year," said Brown. Brown also said that it will also include the Project Lead the Way curriculum for middle school students.
Mechatronics Curriculum For High School
On the other hand, there's the Mechatronics Curriculum for high school students. The program collaboration with Columbia State Community College will help foster and broaden technical skills for these high school students.
Wikipedia defines Mechatronics as a field of engineering that involves mechanical engineering, systems engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, control engineering and telecommunications engineering. Its curriculum includes science and tech writing, computer programming, digital electronic design, electric circuits, instrumentation, dynamics, principles of automatic control and manufacturing processes among others.
These two proposed programs would allow the students to prepare for a good job in the future and would also give them a good start. If the school board will approve them, the programs will be implemented and will available for all interested students.
