Everybody who’s been keeping track of reports will know that Under Armour has struck gold in NBA player Stephen Curry. Now, even Nike’s top designer wants to design a shoe for him.
Tinker Hatfield, the designer of classic Nike kicks such as the Air Max 1 and Jordan III, has been dubbed as the “Michael Jordan of designing Jordans,” reports GQ. Being a shoe designer with an impressive resume that includes all the Jordans, the Air Huarache and the Air Max 90, his name is almost synonymous with Nike’s very own CEO, Mark Parker.
Stephen Curry, on the other hand, is considered by many as the best shooter in NBA history, reports Quartz. The point guard for the Golden State Warriors impressed a lot of people, including the Cavs’ very own LeBron James, who in 2008 went to one of the games that Stephen Curry played in.
"I'm here to watch the kid," James, who was with the Heat back then, told Cleveland.com. "He's a very, very, very, very, very good basketball player,” he added.
Earlier reports reveal that Curry indeed helped boost the sales for Under Armour. UA’s Curry 2 became a bestseller, overtaking LeBron’s signature shoes and helping the company overtake competitors, landing at second place after Nike.
Parent Herald previously reported that Nike lost Stephen Curry because of a mistake by one of its executives. However, Hatfield, who is one of Nike's key people, is persistent to work with the NBA top-rank.
“I would love to design a shoe for Steph Curry,” Hatfield said in response to an interview question. “I think he’s an amazing player and I love watching him perform, and certainly he would be right up there in the top of my list as someone I’d love to work with.”
