There are still a few months before the reported release date of Matt Damon's "Bourne 5: Jason Bourne." But latest update about the upcoming "Bourne" sequel hinted an interesting addition to the "three arenas of warfare" used in the film franchise.
"Bourne 5: Jason Bourne" is reportedly a "conclusion" to Jason Bourne's quest in finding his true identity. The upcoming sequel might also be the finale to the whole "Bourne" saga, as previously reported.
"This is the completion of this journey that started in the Bourne Identity," Damon told Empire Magazine. "It's part of the first three movies; it's not a whole new chapter. It feels like the conclusion, even though we're not saying it's the conclusion, it feels like the conclusion of my identity journey. It goes deeper than Ultimatum."
Damon also added that the plot of "Bourne 5: Jason Bourne" will feature Jason Bourne as he deals with various conflicts in the post-Snowden realm, which will force Damon's character to return to the place where his identity search began. "Bourne 5" will also have a dark storyline linked to Bourne's past life.
"The conclusion we came to... we find him in a very dark and tortured place," Damon explained, as per The Wrap. "He's living with the same things as he was before, and then he goes to find Julia Stiles' character."
In addition, fans will also see a new addition in "Bourne 5: Jason Bourne" cast. According to Damon, "The Danish Girl" actress Alicia Vikander will play the role of a cyber-specialist in the sequel and he also hinted that "Bourne 5: Jason Bourne" will be adding a "fourth element of warfare" to its war-related story.
"Instead of just the three arenas of warfare - air, land and sea - there's now this fourth element: cyber," Damon told Buzz Feed News. "The implications of that are huge, and she's representing that in the movie."
Meanwhile, joining Damon, Stiles and Vikander in "Bourne 5: Jason Bourne" are Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel, Riz Ahmed and Ato Essandoh. The fifth installment of the "Bourne" franchise is under the helm of Paul Greengrass and is expected to be hit the cinemas on Jul. 29, 2016.
