Twenty percent of British moms who binge drink confessed that they have been too hung over to even look after their kids, a recent survey confirms.
A survey of 1,000 mothers revealed a quarter have been drunk within the last month and one in six have, at one point in the past, been too hung over to be a good parent. They also found that 28 percent of mothers with under 18's have been drunk in front of their children. 33 percent of participants said they do not only drink socially with friends, they also drink by themselves. The study also showed that British mothers are not only drinking, they are actually drinking heavily.
Thirty six percent of mothers said they drink to help alleviate work-related stress, while under a third of mothers say they turn to drinking to help them with the deal of the stress that taking care of children brings forth. Likely, 40 percent of women admitted to drinking at least twice or thrice a week, while 15 percent of mothers said they drink in front of their children several times weekly. Finally, a quarter of mothers responded by saying that they regularly drink two or more alcoholic beverages in one night.
Adam Vandermark, editor of This Morning, said: "While most are aware of the perils of binge drinking, it's shocking to see statistics like this that show that many mothers are drinking so much that they feel guilty, while some have been admitted to putting their lives at risk. This lifestyle appears to be a weekly or even daily occurrence and not just during the festive season. It's important to discuss issues like this and highlight the long term dangers."
