The Nintendo NX release speculations continue and a new report suggests that the Japanese company's upcoming console is going to be better than the PlayStation 4 in terms of power and specs. What can gamers expect from the NX? An alleged insider dished the details in a gaming community.
Reddit user stimpak_vendor revealed that he's got his hand on an actual Nintendo NX development kit (devkit), which the company distributed to gaming companies in early 2015. The developer said that he's working on a premium game title for the NX, but to safeguard his company and his job, he didn't provide any specifics about it.
However, the insider claimed that the devkit's controller has a different appearance and it is more rectangular in shape than what was previously leaked. He confirmed earlier rumors about the controller being in itself a device for playing games remotely. "It works like a companion app on a phone, and you can take it with you and control some things from your game," he said.
While the devkit is still in its crudest form, it does come with a 1TB hard drive and 8GB RAM. stimpak_vendor constantly reiterated in the discussion that the Nintendo NX is "slightly above the PS4 in power," which runs on ARM architecture or a more advanced computer configuration, per Game Rant.
However, gamers might be disappointed to know that Nintendo NX's backward compatibility doesn't appear to support games for the Wii U and 3Ds. While it retains some traditional elements of the hardware and form as its predecessors, the real beauty behind the NX is in the controller. The controller's power and functionality is said to be similar to a mid-level smartphone's features.
Forbes reports that the leaks could very well benefit Nintendo whose been lagging behind Sony and Microsoft in the sale of its consoles. Whether the leaks are true or not, fans have some ideas that a better Nintendo device is coming. Meanwhile, the company remains quiet about the Nintendo NX and fans are still waiting for an official announcement.
