According to Lion's Roar, Benedict Cumberbatch spent time in a monastery in India to teach English to the monks. The said experience gave him an opportunity to learn about Buddhism.
"I'd always been fascinated by the idea of meditation and what it meant," Cumberbatch said. "It was incredible. When you've been that still and contemplative, your sensory awareness is heightened and more sharply focused. Stillness is an essential part of acting."
The "Doctor Strange" lead star describes himself as a Buddhist, philosophically and he uses his practice in his craft, which is acting. The "Sherlock" star also disclosed that his profession demands him to look for the infinite and stressed that "If you can hold that, if you can remember that in the chaos, it will anchor you and give you grace and ease."

Meanwhile, Tom Hiddleston who plays Loki, the trickster God in the "Thor" franchise and "The Avengers" revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch reached out to him for some advice after bagging the titular role for "Doctor Strange," International Business Times reported. However, the actor did not give any tips to his fellow British actor.
"I'm very happy about it and I gave him no tips. He needs no advice from me," Tom Hiddleston told Metro. "I don't know much about 'Doctor Strange,' but I'm sure he'll be excellent."
