In the Mood Sleeping Underwater? Airbnb Offers Transparent Room Submerged in Shark-Infested Waters

Airbnb now offers customers a chance to sleep in a transparent room underwater infested with sharks.

The location is in France's Aquarium de Pari, which opened in 1867 and is situated in front of the famed Eiffel Tower. Surrounded by 35 sharks, the underwater space is described as "a peaceful enclosure with a large cylindrical bed and breathtaking, immersive views of your new sharp-toothed friends," CNET reported.

The space's availability is on April 11, 12, and 13, Metro wrote. Two people will be allowed to sleep in the room on each night while submerged in a tank ten meters deep and containing three million liters of water. Only a 360-degree transparent wall separates the customers from the sharks swimming outside the enclosure.

According to CNET's report, the customers' stay will include a personal welcome from a world record-breaking freediver, Fred Buyle, along with a guided tour of the aquarium. There's an intimate meal waiting for you as well.

Buyle, an underwater photographer and a shark enthusiast, will give customers an understanding of the sharks' world, their lives, their significance to the ocean's ecosystem, and why the animals are often misunderstood and feared, the news outlet noted.

Restrictions & Requirements

The Airbnb offer, however, also comes with house rules. Diving is absolutely not permitted, and selfies are not allowed after dark because sharks are sensitive to light, CNET added. The listing recommends potential guests to avoid watching "Jaws" prior to their stay in the underwater bedroom, and warns guests from eating the chum.

Customers are required to be "medically fit" and capable of climbing in and out of the underwater space using a ladder. Also, you and your guest's combined weight can't go over 418 pounds (190 kilograms).

The underwater space isn't a regular Airbnb offering that interested guests can book anytime they desire. By April 3, potential guests need to enter the competition to win a night inside the enclosure along with airfare. You also need to provide a short essay (550 characters or less) by 11:59PM CET about yourself, where you live, and "why you belong with the sharks for a night," the news outlet noted.

The contest is open to anyone and anywhere in the world expect in some countries with an existing embargo by the United States, such as North Korea, Sudan, and Syria. Winners of the contest will be announced on April 9, the Verge reported.

It should be noted that the underwater bedroom has no private bathroom, but guests are allowed to use the biologists' restroom in the aquarium, Business Insider wrote.
