An orphan's Christmas wish finally came true after he has been matched with a foster home in time for the holiday, the Guardian reports.
Davion Only, a 15-year old orphan was born in prison and was raised in foster care for all his life, visited St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, once in September where he expressed his plea to have a family adopt him. He said: "My name is Davion and I've been in foster care since I was born. I know God hasn't given up on me. So I'm not giving up either. I'll take anyone. Old or young, dad or mom, black, white, purple. I don't care. And I would be really appreciative. The best I could be." Davion's caseworker, Connie Going confirmed that it was Davion's idea to go directly to a congregation.
Only's story went viral on social media. Since his plea, he has received 10,000 responses from potential families interested in adopting him. Some of the respondents were from different parts of the world including Canada, Australia, Great Britain, India, Mexico and Iran. Recently, Only moved out of a group home where he lived with 12 other teenage boys and in with his prospective family for the holidays.
Judy Grutza, vice president of Eckerd, an organization that works with the state of Florida on foster cases said the adoption process can be tedious but: "We know that there is great interest in who will become Davion's forever family, but we request patience and understanding as we protect the delicate process of identifying the most appropriate family for Davion."
