Nintendo's first foray into the mobile smartphone market is coming to the U.S. this week! Miitomo, Nintendo's social app, will be available for all supported iOS and Android users in the U.S. starting March 31.
Miitomo, which garnered more than a million users in Japan shortly after its debut, per Parent Herald, can now be enjoyed by people in the U.S. and several other countries, Nintendo said in a press release. More and more people will get to enjoy the simple but colorful way of indirect socializing via Nintendo's cutely-designed smartphone app.
"With Miitomo, Nintendo takes its first step into the world of smart devices," Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, said. "Miitomo brings the special Nintendo charm and polish that people around the world love to an entirely new format and audience."
Interested in Miitomo? Nintendo said it is relatively easy to be part of the growing Miitomo trend. First, the app can be downloaded for free from the Apple Store or Google Play Store. Then, creating a "Mii" or avatar can be done by customizing details or taking a photo of yourself using your phone's camera. You can also import a "Mii" (if you already have one) from your Wii U or 3DS systems.
Pre-registering for Miitomo before it hits Western shores will also give benefits: complimentary platinum points for the new My Nintendo rewards program as well as a service that rewards users for using Nintendo products and services. To pre-register for Miitomo, one has to sign up for a Nintendo account before March 31. Those who pre-registered will receive an email when Miitomo is ready for downloading.
Nintendo does not specify the other countries that will be able to download Miitomo in the press release, but a certain website does, reports Cnet. Countries included in the planned release are Canada, Australia, Russia, New Zealand and some European territories.
Miitomo is the first of Nintendo's five mobile apps slated for release this year. While The first is a social app that features users, the other four will feature some of Nintendo's most popular characters.
