During the latest “Chicago Fire” episode, titled “What Happened to Courtney,” the fire department went to a house which turned out to be empty. The team proceeded to check the air in the home and discovered that the carbon monoxide level was high. The leak apparently stemmed from the chimney and upon further investigation, they discovered that a dead body of a child was hidden in the structure. The corpse was blocking the chimney and causing carbon monoxide levels to rise.
The family that owns the home said that they bought it just a few months before and did not notice anything wrong with the place. They have been out of town for several days, so someone must have placed the body in the chimney while they were away. Severide noticed that the necklace around the dead child’s neck was included in the “Chicago Fire” case file of Courtney Harris.
Courtney was a little girl who wandered away while her parents were having a house party on the lake. Many believed that she drowned in the lake. Severide also remembered that the little girl was given a St. Nicholas train by her mother and recognized the toy when he spotted it again.
Subsequently, an investigator arrived who was furious at Severide for allegedly contaminating her crime scene. She was pressuring Severide to write down everything that happened when they first entered the home. Severide told the detective about the necklace and train, but she said that she needed to get DNA to confirm his theory. When they tried searching for Courtney’s family but they were nowhere to be found and have changed numbers many times.
