“Fullmetal Alchemist” will be adapted into a live-action movie. The project is already under development and fans are already excited speculating on the plot and appearing characters.
“Fullmetal Alchemist” is a Japanese manga and anime series that became a huge hit around the world. The manga series launched in 2001 while the anime released two years after. The manga was created by Hiromu Arakawa and ran for a decade. The series was adapted into animated TV shows and films, but it will be the first time that it will get a live-action treatment.
The anime and manga series ended in 2010, so fans were actually surprised that the creators decided to bring back the classic in live-action form. Although unexpected, news of the “Fullmetal Alchemist” was deemed good news by many.
Livedoor News (as translated by Tokyo Otaku Mode), stated that the “Fullmetal Alchemist” film will launch in summer 2017. Yamada Ryosuke will take on the lead role of the alchemist Edward Elric. Ryosuke is best known as being part of the pop idol squad Hey!Say!JUMP, as well as starring in “Assassination Classroom.”
Fumihiko Sory will serve as the director of “Fullmetal Alchemist.” Filming is set to begin in Italy from June to August 2016. Reportedly, the movie will involve the heavy use of CGI to recreate the various settings, elements and features in the manga. Fans can expect familiar effects in “Fullmetal Alchemist” to come to life such as metal alchemy techniques and Alphonse Elric’s armor.
In the manga, Edward Elric is known as the Fullmetal Alchemist, because of his prosthetic limbs and ability to use alchemy with metal materials. There are other alchemists like Edward, who can transmute almost anything using their souls. However, they have to sacrifice a physical part or possession when they transmute. The series also features Truth, a powerful entity who controls all the use and practice of alchemy. It is still uncertain which storyline will inspire the upcoming “Fullmetal Alchemist” film.
IGN notes that a number of popular anime series are being adapted into live-action versions, including “Death Note” and “Ghost in the Shell.” The live-action “Death Note” movie is currently in development in the United States. It was also confirmed that Scarlett Johansson will star in the “Ghost in the Shell” movie, which will launch in March 2017.
The live-action movie “Fullmetal Alchemist” will launch in summer 2017. More updates and details on the plot and cast of “Fullmetal Alchemist” are expected soon.
