Education Technology May Have Been Oversold

Education technology may have been oversold as educators and schools try to keep pace with the speed of development taking place in the industry. This urge to cope up may be bringing in unnecessary spending thus compromising the quality of education the learners are receiving.

Generally, technology is supposed to act as a tool for educating the young minds and is not meant to completely eliminate the traditional teaching practice. While this remains to be a fact to most educators, there are institutions that fail to use this material properly, investing more on equipment purchases rather than employing competitive teachers.

The Office of Education Technology recently released its 2016 plan encouraging instructors to take advantage of technology from teaching up to student assessment. This aims to ease the educators' workload giving them more time to interact and be hands-on in other child development programs.

Plans such as these are then taken advantage of by manufacturers, promoting their product, highlighting the advantages and benefits schools may acquire from them. This is where the risk of overspending on technology may take place. If schools will not be cautious, they may end up sacrificing the quality of education due to unwise spending.

Educators must be vigilant enough to analyze the need in every classroom. It is a necessity for them to always keep in mind that a school is not supposed to be a technology centered place but a learner-centered environment provided with enough aid of education technology.

The use of education technology must encourage collaborative working among students. It must enhance their ability to produce, design and create, according to TES.

Though education technology has a lot benefits such as research, globalization, educational games and web seminars, teachers are the ones who can truly gauge the amount of need for technology aide in a classroom and the extent of its use, according to Small Business Chron.
