Warner Bros. is reportedly spending lots of money to reshoot "Suicide Squad."
Birth.Movies.Death. claimed that the studio is spending "tens of millions" to dollars to reshoot a dozen of scenes for the upcoming antihero flick to add more lightheartedness and a few more jokes.
The news outlet claimed that Warner Bros.' decision came when the movie's trailer got positive reactions. The studio ordered script rewrites and scheduled time with the cast and crew to reshoot scenes.
Reshooting "Suicide Squad" scenes aim to make the film a more fun experience for viewers and make the characters more interesting. This means that the movie's finished product will not just showcase additional jokes, but also feature slightly sillier interactions between the characters. It is expected that the flick won't take itself seriously, unlike the recently released "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
Jared Leto's Unique Take on the Joker
Prior to Jared Leto, DC Comics' popular villain, the Joker, was first portrayed on the big screen by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton's "Batman," followed by the late Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight." With these big names attached to the character, it's no wonder that expectations have surrounded Leto's take on Batman's nemesis.
The actor and 30 Seconds to Mars frontman is grateful for the opportunity to play the Joker, and he made it sure to put his own unique interpretation on the character.
"You just knew you had to do something different. You had to make it your own. That happens all the time," Leto said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "Directors take on great works of cinema, actors reinterpret roles, that's been going on for a great deal of time. From Scarface to Hamlet. In some ways it's really interesting to reinterpret, redefine,"
He continued, "It a weighty thing to do. But it's exciting. The Joker is one of those roles. He was written brilliantly when he was first shared with the world 75 years ago, or something crazy like that. And I think I'm just really grateful I had the opportunity."
Leto admitted that he hasn't "formulated" a lot of his thoughts on portraying the character, adding that the performances of the actors who previously assumed the role "has been so impactful, so incredible, so much fun, so profound, so risky," EW reported. For him, being tasked to play the Joker is "a very special thing."
"Suicide Squad," which was directed by David Ayer, also stars Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis, among others. The film bows in theaters on August 5, 2016.
