The production for "Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" starring Dylan O'Brien was postponed after the actor got into a terrible accident during filming.
Contrary to some reports online, the shooting for "Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" was not cancelled altogether but was only delayed. It is expected to resume as soon as the "Teen Wolf" actor recuperates from his injury.
O'Brien was said to be hit by a car as he filmed a scene for "Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" and sustained what was described by Deadline as "a fractured cheekbone or an orbital eye socket."
20th Century Fox did not went into detail about O'Brien's condition, but assured that "Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" will not be cancelled.
"Production on the film will be shut down while he recovers. Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery," the company said in a statement picked up by Independent.
The lack of details about the accident had many fans thinking that the "Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" lead's injury is more severe than the people in charge make it out to be. After all, the reports said he was run over by a car.
However, James Dashner, the author of the "Maze Runner" books where the movies were based, did his best to extinguish fans' growing worries on Twitter.
"I just want to let everyone know that yes, Dylan was hurt, but that he's going to be okay. Not life threatening in any way," Dashner said in one tweet.
In another tweet, the novelist said that "Production is postponed but certainly not cancelled. All that matters now is that Dylan recovers." He then sent some love to the face of the "Maze Runner" movies.
"Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" director Wes Ball refused to elaborate more on the concern but he emphasized in a letter he posted on Twitter that O'Brien is "one tough cookie."
"Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" is supposed to be released on February 17 next year. But with O'Brien's condition, it will be delayed for months at the least.
For now, fans send love and prayers for the actor and his recovery. They hope that he will be back on his feet soon and hope that the rest of the "Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" production will be gracious to the injured actor.
A new release date for "Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" is yet to be determined but Ball thinks that O'Brien is looking at weeks before he completely comes around again.
