Troubling Higher Education Trends: The Reason Why College Tuition Is Getting More Expensive

College education is important for having a great career and a stable profession in life. Unfortunately, many students are struggling to pay their college tuition because of its very high price. The reason for the increasing college tuition is a troubling trend in higher education which involves having too many new college and university administrators and employees.

"Since 1987, US colleges and universities have hired more than 500,000 new administrators or professional employees which is an average of 87 hired every business day," KOAA 5 reports. "Meanwhile, federal figures show that the growth in the number of students and full-time teaching faculty has grown at only half that rate."

Another troubling higher education trend is the cost of construction, expansion and renovation in colleges and universities which have increased the cost of college tuition. "We are in the midst of a 30 million dollar expansion and renovation to our student center. Most of it was paid for by the students." Cora Zaletel, Colorado State University Executive Director of External Affairs, told KOAA 5.

There are other higher education trends that affect college tuition. The inclusion of modern technology in colleges and universities, mental health programs and different forms of marketing are affecting the cost of college tuition. The government, colleges, universities, parents and students should all work together in reducing college tuition cost in order to make it more available for people.

"Reducing tuition is a noble goal and is one of the primary ways to ensure that the dream of a college education be a reality for more Americans in the days ahead," Huffington Post shares. If college is really a path to success, then all of us should do something to make this path more accessible and affordable for people who dream of achieving success.
