A 32-year-old mother has been charged with child neglect after authorities discovered that she made her two daughters walk to school while she drove the car ahead of them two months ago. The act was reportedly done by the mother to punish her kids for not being able to catch their school bus.
ABC News said Lisa Marie Palmer was seen making her kids, both below 10 years old, walking along a road leading to their school on Valley View Highway. Policeman Chris Ladd said that he and another officer saw the two kids walking with a dog while Palmer's Cadillac was running 50 meters ahead of them.
"[It] appeared as if she was driving ahead of the children and allowing them to walk and catch up to her vehicle and to proceed with that action until the children reached the school," Ladd was quoted by ABC News as saying in the report. He noted that girls walked for about 1.5 miles from their homes.
In addition, the officer also claimed that the kids were also exposed to extreme cold while they were walking along the busy road. "Mrs. Palmer was in no position to reach her children safely in the event of an emergency," Ladd added.
It was noted in a Times Free Press report that the policeman cited the mother for neglecting her role as a mother. He also helped the kids get to their school without walking for two more miles.
In addition to her child neglect charge, Palmer was also reportedly driving without a valid driver's license. Her father, Douglas, reportedly refused to provide the authorities with Palmer's license and even argued with them.
Ladd said he even used obscene language when talking to them while the two kids were listening and watching. Douglas also accused the policeman as the officer who allegedly beat him in a previous incident.
