After almost three months after his death, David Bowie has been given a concert tribute titled "The Music of David Bowie" at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on April 1. The event gathered A-Lister artists as they give honor to the music icon, David Bowie.
According to TIME, "The Music of David Bowie" is to celebrate the life and music of David Bowie. David Bowie's influenced in the music industry and into the world is exhibited in "The Music of David Bowie" by other iconic music artists.
"The Music of David Bowie" is graced by the big names in the music industry like R.E.M. frontman, Michael Stipe, Blondie, Sean Lennon, Pixies and the Flaming Lips. Also, Toronto's Choir! Choir! Choir! Backstage surprised everyone with their hair-raising rendition of David Bowie's greatest hit, "Space Oddity," as per Rolling Stone.
David Bowie's known producer, Tony Visconti, led the house band with Mick "Woody" Woodmansey, the drummer from Spiders From Mars. "The Music of David Bowie" kicked off with David Bowie's "Suffragette City" performed Cyndi Lauper.
Laurie Anderson showed her version of "Always Crashing in the Same Car" with her violin. Debbie Harry made everyone sway and sing when she sang "Starman."
Michael Stipe stole the night with his musical adaptation of "Ashes to Ashes" with the pianist, Karen Elson. Sean Lennon and J Mascis gave "Quicksand" a different twist with their twin acoustic guitars adding the tune of "Andy Warhol."
Bettye LaVette sang "It Ain't Easy" while Joseph Arthur performed "The Man Who Sold the World" with his electric guitar. Perry Farrell looked very energetic when he performed "Rebel Rebel" and Ann Wilson used her powerful voice in singing "Let's Dance."
Cat Power showed their take on "Five Years" and Rickie Lee Jones carried out "All the Young Dudes" with his acoustic guitar. However, Pixies is the only one who performed their own song "Cactus," which has been part of David Bowie's 2002 album, "Heathen."
Lastly, Choir! Choir! Choir! Backstage left everyone in awe with their performance of David Bowie's hit, "Space Oddity," which made made 3,000 attendees of "The Music of David Bowie" sing along. "The Music of David Bowie ended with Major Tom floating in the open air.
