A particular diet drink called 'Full & Slim' acts like a gastric band that may make it possible for people to lose weight without diet or exercise, the Daily Mail reports.
The makers of "Full & Slim" claim that their product works by expanding the stomach to convince the user that he or she is already full. They said the drink can also help overweight people lower their cholesterol levels, absorb fats more efficiently and reduce their chance of developing diabetes. The drink contains l-carnitine, an amino acid which helps burn fat in the body and turns it into energy.
Makers confirmed that of the 500 women who drank the supplement before each meal, around 70 percent lost 14 pounds or more weight within six weeks. Women who took the drink without any diet or exercise lost up to three pounds per week. James Harrington, Full & Slim director said: "The combination of ingredients suppresses appetite and mimics the effects of a gastric band, without undergoing the trauma of invasive surgery." However, some experts are expressing their concern about the benefits of natural foods and supplements that claim to speed up weight loss.
However, one recent study found that, on average, volunteers given four grams of glucomannan a day for five consecutive weeks recorded a 5.1 percent reduction in body weight, as well as a 5.4 percent drop in their body mass index and 14 percent drop in cholesterol. On the contrary, participants who were offered a placebo showed a much lesser improvement in their body weight, body mass index and cholesterol levels.
