Development on the much-awaited "Luke Cage" series on Netflix is already on the go. There's already a release date and a trailer has already been shown, but there's a lot more to learn about Luke Cage.
Mike Colter, who was chosen to play the titular Marvel character, had a lot to say about the upcoming Netflix series in the "Luke Cage" panel at the Wizard World in St. Louis.
"He wasn't trying to be a superhero. The series about him growing into that," Colter said of Netflix's version of Luke Cage. It seems that superhero duties aren't his thing.
However, destiny had different plans for Luke Cage and next things he knows, he is one of the strongest savior in the city. "He's going to do a lot of badass stuff! Prepare for badassery," Colter further teased.
"Luke Cage" is about the eponymous character who is endowed super strength and indestructible skin after what Marvel describes as a "sabotaged" experiment.
This condition put Luke Cage on the run in the dark streets of Harlem, New York where he still dreams of starting his life anew. However, fate intervenes, making it hard for him to run away from his past.
Here is a complete description of the "Luke Cage" Netflix series provided by Marvel:
After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city - forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.
Colter debuted as Luke Cage in "Jessica Jones" and was always poised to get a series following his superhero adventures.
Joining Cornell in "Luke Cage" is "House of Cards" star Mahershala Ali, who will play the role of Luke Cage's nemesis, Cornell Stokes better known as Cottonmouth. In the comics, he is involved in Luke Cage gaining his powers.
Other members of the cast include Alfre Woodard (Mariah Dillard), Theo Rossi (Shades), Frank Whaley (Rafael Scarfe), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple) and Sonia Braga (Angel Eyes). Cheo Hodari Coker from "Ray Donovan") will write the series' first two episodes and will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
