The clamor for "Iron Man 4" continues despite Robert Downey Jr.'s admission that there were no plans for an upcoming "Iron Man" installment yet. But latest rumors have it that Marvel Studios might release "Iron Man 4" in 2020.
"Iron Man" fans were hoping for a fourth installment since it is one of the most popular franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, they were recently disappointed when Robert Downey Jr., the actor who plays the role of Tony Stark aka Iron Man, revealed "Iron Man 4" is not in the works.
"I don't think ["Iron Man 4"] is in the cards," the 50-year-old actor said during an interview with USA Today. "In a way it's Cap 3 but for me it's like my little Iron Man 4. And then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes."
Despite the fact that the "Iron Man" franchise have attracted a solid fan base, Marvel opted to concentrate on making movies about other heroes such as "Captain America" and "Avengers." But according to Breathecast, Marvel Studios announced its film line-up until 2020 and latest rumors claimed the possibility of "Iron Man 4."
Based on the studio's revelation, there are still three unannounced films that are set to be released on May 1, July and Nov. 6, 2020. Thus, avid "Iron Man" fans are hoping one of the said films will be Downey Jr.'s "Iron Man 4."
Even though Marvel is still mum on the possibility of "Iron Man 4," director Joe Russo believes that it's "impossible" to replace Downey Jr. as Iron Man if the studio decides to have a reboot. Russo also stressed that if Downey Jr. is done playing the superhero character, Iron Man will "disappear for a while."
"It's almost impossible to replace Robert, he's the biggest movie star in the world," Russo told Forbes. "One close up from Robert is worth another actor's entire performance, he's incredibly gifted and insanely talented. I think if and when he is done with the character I think you will find that Iron Man might disappear for a while."
Meanwhile, "Iron Man" fans will be seeing Downey Jr. in "Captain America: Civil War" as it premieres on May 6. He will also make an appearance in "Avengers: Infinity War" Part 1 on May 4, 2018 while the second part is set to premiere on May 3, 2019, Vine Report notes.
