'Resident Evil 2' Producer Hopes to 'Recapture the Spirit' of Original Game

Not much has been revealed about the "Resident Evil 2" remake. Just recently, however, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said the revival will showcase the original game's essence.

Hirabayashi said in an interview with VideoGamer that the remake aims to "recapture the spirit" of the original game released in 1998.

"[The Resident Evil] GameCube remake was my first project at Capcom. I was able to learn from more experienced colleagues and see with my own eyes how they translated their efforts into such a masterpiece that built on an already well-received game. It was an incredibly valuable experience for me," he explained, as quoted by VideoGamer.

Development On-going

He noted that the development process is "progressing" and that working on the revival was an "incredible learning experience," the news outlet further reported. While revisiting the original "Resident Evil" game with 2015's HD remaster, the team went through "every single thing in it," such as the audio-visual assets, the game's pacing, and the programming.

"This fine toothcomb approach to the remaster really showed me what my predecessors focused on during the original project and that's been very valuable too," Hirabayashi added, as quoted by VideoGamer.

Hirabayashi didn't say if the remake will display the same fixed camera angles of the original or the later games' vibrant third-person view. But the producer shared that "Resident Evil 6," which was launched in 2012, helped some aspects of the remake's creation.

"Every title brings with it learning experiences," Hirabayashi told VideoGamer. "And of course, I saw a lot of the feedback on 'Resident Evil 6' and have taken on board everything I've heard from the fans about the game and I want to show you what it taught me through the next experience I'll be bringing to you."

The release date and platforms for the "Resident Evil 2" remake hasn't been announced yet. Capcom is re-releasing "Resident Evil" 4 (this fall), 5 (this summer), and 6 (last month) on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, IGN listed.

'Resident Evil' CG Movie

Next year's "Resident Evil" CG movie, subtitled "Vendetta," will feature Leon S. Kennedy riding a Ducati motorcycle during action-packed scenes, GameSpot reported. The motorcycle, which is the newest XDiavel model, was a collaboration between Marza and Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati.

"Vendetta" is directed by Takanori Tsujimoto from a script penned by Makoto Fukami. Takashi Shimizu executive produced the project, while Capcom's Hiroyuki Kobayashi served as an executive supervisor.

The live-action "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" starring Milla Jovovich will also debut next year in January, GameSpot noted. Other "Resident Evil" films are 2012's "Resident Evil: Damnation" and 2008's "Resident Evil: Degeneration."
