"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" will serve as the game franchise's final installment. In a recent interview, Naughty Dog director Neil Druckmann said the game's ending will spur talks among players.
"I think people will discuss the ending. If focus tests are anything to go by, there will be some arguments about the ending," he told IGN. "I'm excited. Indifference would be the worst thing. I would rather have people hate it than be indifferent to it. We'll see how they react."
Druckmann wouldn't say if the game's protagonist, Nathan Drake, will die, but he assured fans that the story will be honest.
"What I found is you kind of have to ignore other people. Any time you try to please something outside yourself, it can easily come off as false. Whenever we make something that's honest to us that is the game we truly want to play, you know whether you succeed or not," he explained, as quoted by IGN.
Legendary Ending
Like its predecessors, the fourth "Uncharted" game will both showcase darkness and humor, but it will also have something unique not seen in past installments.
"In terms of the tone of the game, some of the early stuff showed it to be a little darker than people were used to seeing. But as with any 'Uncharted' game, there's going to be moments of darkness and humor and sh*t blowing up all around you. It's the same kind of rollercoaster ride that we've always provided. I think the biggest difference in the way that we're telling the story this time is that we're allowing for a lot more quiet and introspective moments than we've had in previous games," "Uncharted 4" writer Josh Scherr revealed, as reported by GameSpot.
'Uncharted 4' Will Make Players Cry
The developers said the characters in "Uncharted 4" are ultra-realistic, making players feel a bunch of emotions.
Lead artist Tate Mosesian said that players developed "an affinity for the characters and an understanding of what motivates them" as the franchise progressed, a separate report from GameSpot read. Mosesian hopes the final game will wrap up to "a nice crescendo" that can make players cry or laugh.
Co-director Bruce Straley has said that "Uncharted 4" is the "most visually stunning game ever created," GameSpot reported. In an interview with Huffington Post, Straley shared that the fourth installment will get "personal with who Nathan Drake is" than what was done by the previous "Uncharted" games.
"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" suffered multiple delays. It is now scheduled to launch exclusively on PlayStation 4 on May 10, 2016.
