Parenting Tips: 5 Discipline Hacks That Are Proven By Moms

Mom knows best! This also holds true when it comes to fixing tantrums, whining, talking back and more.

Every parent knows how it feels every time your kid just refused to listen to everything that you say and wants to have his or her own way. There are just instances when you just want to scream even if you know it won't do you anything good.

In the midst of these turbulent feelings is a fear of raising your child the right way. Then you question yourself with this: If your kids' behavior cannot be controlled, will it become worse or will it just pass?

To help you with this dilemma, we give you discipline hacks proven by moms that can also work with your kids! Tips were collected from certified moms, featured in Parents and Parenting Magazine.

1. Bedtime Struggles

This trick is offered by Sarah Hoflich from Austin Texas. Every time she puts her son to bed, she gives him a paper lunch bag that holds a surprise he gets to see in the morning. She would usually sneak in a picture of their activities for the day, a little toy, or anything that could delight his son. Offering an incentive works.

2. Turn No into a Yes

This is a popular strategy. Instead of saying no, rephrase your answers in a positive way. Always be thoughtful about your reaction as a parent. If you must, count to ten before you say or do anything.

3. Tantrums

Liessa Alperin from St. Louis, Missouri would usually walk away, pretending indifference whenever her kids throw a tantrum. They would eventually stop if they realize you don't pay attention.

4. Sibling Fights

Jody Hook from Carmel, Indiana believes that if her children have time to argue, they have time to work some chores. She would delegate a task to each of them to stop them from squabbling. If they argue, she would add more.

Karen Baum has another way of dealing with sibling fights. She would ask her kids to give five hugs if they fight over a toy. It would escalate to a three-minute holding hands if they yell at each other. This approach reinforces affection for the kids.

5. Demands

Kathy Robinson teaches her daughter to save up every time she asks something or wants something. Robinson lets her daughter keep a piggy bank where she can get money to buy things that she likes.
