"Mission Impossible" star Tom Cruise and the Church of Scientology are both getting a lot of attention. Thanks to the new AMC series, "Preacher," and a new anti-disconnection billboard in Los Angeles, both Tom Cruise and the Church of Scientology are receiving a fresh flurry of buzz.
According to Comic Book Resources, the "Preacher" series pilot placed Tom Cruise in a cameo role as a preacher for the Church Of Scientology. The cameo role, however, ends unhappily as Tom Cruise literally explodes because of a mysterious force from outer space. The reaction to the pilot's Tom Cruise surprise has, by far, been just as explosive with fans taking to social media to express their approval.
The Daily Beast says that co-executive producer Seth Rogen said he is prepared to explain the cameo to Tom Cruise when they come face to face. "The Dictator" star stated that he will be sure to make Tom Cruise understand that the intention behind the "Preacher" appearance is complimentary. Rogen said that the inclusion of Tom Cruise in the pilot, in a way, validates the "Jack Reacher" star as a serious religious person.
Page Six reports that the Church of Scientology is taking a beating from a new billboard advertising against family disconnection. The advertisement is sponsored by former key Scientology members, Phil and Willie Jones, and appeals to current members of the church, who have reportedly cut communications with family members who are not part of the church. "To my loved one in Scientology . . . Call me," the Hollywood billboard reads.
Church of Scientology has been receiving criticisms of causing the numerous break ups between their church members and family members who do not belong to the church. Criticisms went as far as to say that these family splits are forced upon the members.
Interestingly, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's daughter, Isabella Cruise, recently got married in London with neither the "Mission Impossible" star nor the "Eyes Wide Shut" actress in attendance. Tom Cruise's children, Isabella and Connor, reportedly cut ties with Nicole Kidman after Cruise and Kidman divorced.
Ironically, previous reports surfaced that Tom Cruise is the rare exception, and has not been tasked by the Church of Scientology to disconnect from Suri Cruise. Although Katie Holmes and the "Top Gun" star divorced in 2012, Tom Cruise reportedly remained in contact with Suri until over a year ago. A few reports allege that Tom Cruise maintains hope that Suri Cruise will still become a part of the Church of Scientology.
