No matter how you keep yourself full and tried your best to avoid overeating, when you feel hungry you will end up ransacking for food. Hence, if you're always wondering why you always feel starving, a head nutritionist from NutriCentre named Shona Wilkinson reveals five reasons why do you have an uncontrollable appetite.
1. You're eating a lot of carbs.
According to NZ Herald News, indulging a lot of carbohydrate-source foods make a person hungry faster than usual. Shona Wilkinson explained that taking a lot of carbohydrates in one sitting can be quickly absorbed by the body and transformed into sugar.
This sugar can raise the amount of insulin released in the body, which is known as the hormone that tells the cells to collect glucose. Hence, when all the sugar is gone in your blood, it can make you feel hungry again and crave for another load of carbohydrates.
2. You're pregnant.
For some obvious reason, being pregnant requires the expectant mother to eat for two. As per Daily Mail, the woman doesn't have to control herself, that much, to take an additional amount of calories to sustain her body and her baby.
But, the soon-to-be mother should be very careful of what she's eating. She should choose healthy foods, real meals and avoid junk, processed and a lot of sweets to make herself and her baby healthy.
3. You're sleep deprived.
Aside from the feeling of being tired, lack of sleep also has its effect on your appetite. When a person doesn't have the right amount of sleep, the level of hormone leptin is decreasing and increasing the hormone ghreline. This will cause you to feel hungry and opt for food.
4. You're really thirsty.
NZ Herald News added the need for a drink can make you feel the need for food. This can be mistakenly made you feel hungry when all you really need is to have some liquid.
5. It's that time of the month.
According to the studies, as per Daily Mail, a woman can have an uncontrollable appetite at the second half of their menstruation cycle. However, females should opt for protein-rich foods to help them balance their sugar levels and handle their increasing cravings.
