Role-playing video game "Fallout 4" was a big winner during the recently held British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Games Awards. The latest Fallout installment was named "Best Game of the Year."
BBC reported that this is the first time game developer Bethesda won the prize since BAFTA started recognizing quality video games in 2004. "Fallout 4," however, it did not win in any other categories in the competition.
Bethesda Game Studios' Sean Brennan said they did not expect to win the top award in this year's BAFTA. "I'm genuinely humbled to receive this on behalf of Todd Howard and Bethesda Game Studios," Brennan said. "You don't have to have the multi-million dollar budgets to make great games - I've seen a huge amount of evidence for that tonight."
According to Eurogamer, Fallout 4 faced tough competition to win the prize. Some of the other nominees were "Metal Gear Solid 5," "Everybody's Gone to the Rapture," "Witcher 3," "Rocket League," and "Life is Strange."
It, however, noted that Rapture and "Rocket League" won in other categories. "Rocket Story" bagged the Multiplayer, Family and Sport awards while Rapture was given the Audio Achievement, Music and Performance recognition.
One of the most notable speeches during the awards night, as per Mirror, was that of Rapture's Jessica Curry when she accepted the music award.
"I am a left wing feminist with a degenerative disease who tried to bring down a major publisher," she mentioned in her speech. "It's a miracle I'm here."
Curry told The Guardian that the team behind "Everybody's Gone to the Rapture" really pays attention to the game's music. "I think having a composer and a writer at the head of The Chinese Room, stories and music are always going to be at the forefront of what we do. Music is integral to the process," she added.
