Many box office analysts predicted that "Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice," with Ben Affleck as Batman / Bruce Wayne and Henry Cavill as Superman / Clark Kent, will remain as the number one movie in North America for the third straight weekend. However, Melissa McCarthy's new comedy movie, "The Boss" managed to beat "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" this weekend by a narrow margin.
"The Boss" was able to earn $23.48 million during the weekend, while "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" earned $23.44 million, the Hollywood Reporter shares. The Affleck movie dropped 54 percent in its second weekend with a current domestic total of $296.7 million.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" is performing better in the international market as it grossed $34 million over the weekend, which increases its international box office to $486.8 million. Affleck's debut movie as Batman is having a hard time reaching the one billion mark, which might be due to the poor word of mouth and critic reviews the movie has received. The Batman and Superman team-up movie currently has a very low 29 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Other new releases during the weekend include "Hardcore Henry", which opened fifth at the domestic box office with a total of $5.1 million and Jake Gyllenhaal's "Demolition", which grossed $1.1 million in 854 locations. Tuesday box office updates will show if McCarthy's "The Boss" can hold the number one spot against Affleck's "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice."
